A simple and quick 5-ingredient recipe for chewy, soft chocolate chip cookies with a rich buttery flavor and gooey chocolate chips. Perfect for any occasion and easy to customize.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (220g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups (270g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter and packed brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking soda. Slowly add this to the butter mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  4. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips gently with a spatula.
  5. Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded balls of dough about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet. For larger cookies, use a heaping 2-tablespoon scoop.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers still look slightly soft. Do not overbake.
  7. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

If dough is too soft to handle, refrigerate for 15-20 minutes before scooping to prevent spreading. Use room temperature butter for best creaming results. Remove cookies from oven when edges are golden but centers are still soft to maintain chewiness. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
