Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 pounds boneless pork shoulder, trimmed of excess fat
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  3. Rub the seasoning mixture generously all over the pork.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, and liquid smoke.
  5. Place the seasoned pork into the Crockpot and pour the liquid mixture over the top.
  6. Cover the Crockpot and cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-5 hours until the pork is fall-apart tender and reaches an internal temperature of 190°F (88°C).
  7. Use two forks to shred the pork.
  8. Mix in additional barbecue sauce to taste and keep the pork warm in the Crockpot until ready to serve.

Notes

[‘Don’t skip the dry rub—it adds deep flavor to the pork.’, ‘Cooking on low heat for a longer time results in the most tender meat.’, ‘Use a meat thermometer to ensure the pork is fully cooked but still juicy.’, ‘Let the pork rest in its juices after shredding for enhanced flavor.’, ‘Pulled pork freezes beautifully and reheats well, so consider doubling the recipe.’]
