These whimsical meringue Christmas trees are a delightful and creative way to add edible charm to your holiday celebrations. Light, crisp, and melt-in-your-mouth, they’re deceptively simple to make and perfect for festive gatherings or gifting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 egg whites, fresh and at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Green gel food coloring
  • Decorative sprinkles (stars, pearls, glitter)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean mixing bowl, add the egg whites and cream of tartar. Whip on medium speed until frothy.
  3. Gradually add the granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while whipping. Increase the speed to high and continue whipping until stiff peaks form—this will take about 7-8 minutes. The meringue should be glossy and hold its shape.
  4. Gently fold in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, taking care not to deflate the meringue.
  5. Add a few drops of green gel food coloring and gently fold until the color is evenly distributed. Adjust the intensity as needed.
  6. Transfer the meringue to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe small tree shapes onto the prepared baking sheets, starting with a larger base and tapering upward to form a cone-like shape.
  7. Decorate each tree with sprinkles, pearls, or stars as desired.
  8. Bake the meringues for 1.5-2 hours, or until they are fully dry and can be easily lifted off the parchment paper. Avoid opening the oven during baking to prevent cracks.
  9. Turn off the oven and let the meringues cool completely inside with the door slightly ajar.

Notes

[‘Use room temperature eggs for better whipping results.’, ‘Ensure all equipment is clean and grease-free to avoid ruining the meringue.’, ‘Add sugar gradually to prevent grittiness and achieve a stable meringue.’, ‘Practice piping on a sheet before starting your final batch.’, ‘Store meringues in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.’]
