Delicious and adorable cake pops with a creamy cake center and smooth white chocolate coating, perfect for romantic celebrations like Valentine’s Day and anniversaries.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix (about 15.25 oz / 432 g) or homemade equivalent
  • Ingredients called for on the cake mix box (usually eggs, oil, water)
  • 4 oz (115 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups (180 g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 12 oz (340 g) white chocolate or candy melts
  • Red and pink edible food coloring or candy melts (for arrows and hearts)
  • Candy sticks or lollipop sticks
  • Edible glitter or heart-shaped sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare cake batter according to box or homemade recipe instructions. Pour into greased 9×13 inch baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack (about 45 minutes).
  2. Crumble cooled cake into fine crumbs in a large bowl, resembling coarse sand with no large chunks.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat softened cream cheese and butter until creamy (2-3 minutes). Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until fluffy and thick but spreadable.
  4. Add about 3/4 of the frosting to the cake crumbs. Mix gently until mixture holds together when pressed. Adjust by adding more frosting or crumbs to achieve a moldable dough-like texture.
  5. Roll mixture into 1-inch balls and place on parchment-lined baking sheet. Insert lollipop stick halfway into each ball. Chill in fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Melt white chocolate or candy melts in microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Add food coloring if desired.
  7. Dip chilled cake pops into melted coating, tapping off excess. Place upright in foam block or stand to dry. Decorate with edible glitter, sprinkles, or pipe arrow designs with colored melts.
  8. Let cake pops set fully at room temperature or chill for 10-15 minutes to speed drying. Serve or package as desired.

Notes

Chill cake balls before dipping to prevent cracking and falling off sticks. Thin chocolate coating with vegetable oil if too thick. Dip stick tip in melted chocolate before inserting into cake ball for stability. Use small piping bag for neat arrow decorations.
