Tender, juicy BBQ chicken coated in a sweet and smoky sauce, made effortlessly in a crockpot for busy weeknights or lazy Sundays.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken breasts or thighs with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the BBQ sauce, honey, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and optional apple cider vinegar or cayenne pepper. Stir until smooth.
  3. Place the chicken in the crockpot and pour the BBQ sauce mixture over the top, ensuring all the chicken pieces are coated.
  4. Set the crockpot to low and cook for 6-8 hours, or high for 3-4 hours. The chicken should be tender and easy to shred.
  5. About halfway through cooking, give the sauce a quick stir to ensure it’s evenly distributed.
  6. If you prefer shredded chicken, use two forks to pull the chicken apart once it’s done cooking.
  7. Spoon the chicken onto plates or buns, drizzle with extra BBQ sauce if desired, and enjoy!

Notes

[‘Stick to the recommended cooking times to keep the chicken moist.’, ‘Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).’, ‘Season the chicken directly before adding the sauce for extra depth.’, ‘Simmer the sauce briefly after cooking if you prefer a thicker consistency.’, ‘Adjust the honey based on the sweetness level of your BBQ sauce.’]
