Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls (one standard package)
  • 8 oz thinly sliced deli ham (smoked or honey ham)
  • 8 oz Swiss cheese, sliced (or provolone, cheddar, or pepper jack)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced or grated (or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.
  2. Without separating the rolls, slice the whole package horizontally to create a top and bottom slab.
  3. Place the bottom half of the rolls in the prepared baking dish, cut side up.
  4. Layer all the ham evenly over the rolls.
  5. Top the ham with all the cheese slices.
  6. Place the top half of the rolls back on, gently pressing down.
  7. In a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, melt butter. Whisk in Dijon mustard, brown sugar, poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  8. Brush the buttery glaze generously over the tops of the rolls.
  9. Let the sliders sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes to soak in the glaze, if time allows.
  10. Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 15 minutes.
  11. Remove foil and bake for another 10-12 minutes, until cheese is melted and tops are golden.
  12. Let cool for 5 minutes, then slice along the seams and serve warm.

Notes

For gluten-free or dairy-free, use appropriate rolls and cheese. Assemble ahead and refrigerate, then bake when ready. Let sliders rest before slicing for easier serving. Poppy seeds are optional. Variations include adding pineapple, jalapeños, or using different cheeses. Leftovers can be refrigerated up to 3 days or frozen before baking.
