A bright and playful alcohol-free spritzer combining muddled blackberries and basil with fresh lemon juice and sparkling water, perfect for summer refreshment.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh blackberries (about 150g)
  • 1012 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 large lemons (about 4 fl oz / 120 ml juice)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or sugar (30g), adjust to taste
  • 2 cups sparkling water (480 ml), chilled
  • Ice cubes or crushed ice, as needed
  • Optional garnish: lemon slices and basil sprigs

Instructions

  1. Place blackberries and basil leaves into a pitcher or mixing glass. Gently muddle with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon for 1-2 minutes to release juices and aromas without over-muddling.
  2. Roll lemons on the countertop, cut in half, and squeeze out about 4 fl oz (120 ml) of lemon juice. Strain to remove seeds and pulp if desired.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons (30g) of honey or sugar to the muddled mixture and stir well until dissolved, about 1 minute.
  4. Pour fresh lemon juice into the pitcher and stir gently to combine, about 30 seconds.
  5. Just before serving, add 2 cups (480 ml) of chilled sparkling water and stir gently to preserve bubbles, about 30 seconds.
  6. Fill tall glasses with ice cubes or crushed ice, pour the mocktail over the ice, and garnish with lemon slices and basil sprigs.
  7. Enjoy immediately for best flavor and fizz. If preparing ahead, keep the muddled mixture and sparkling water separate until serving.

Notes

Muddle gently to avoid bitterness from basil and mushy berries. Use fresh lemons for best flavor. Add sparkling water just before serving to keep fizz. Adjust sweetness based on berry ripeness. Can substitute basil with mint or thyme. Keep muddled mixture and sparkling water separate if preparing ahead.
