A festive and simple charcuterie board featuring star-shaped cheeses, assorted cured meats, fresh fruits, and crunchy crackers, perfect for Fourth of July celebrations.

Ingredients

  • Sharp Cheddar, sliced (for bold flavor and bright orange color)
  • Mild Mozzarella or Monterey Jack, sliced (for a creamy, white cheese to cut into stars)
  • Blue Cheese Crumbles or Blue Cheese Wedges (optional, for a tangy bite)
  • Sliced Salami (classic and easy to find)
  • Prosciutto or thinly sliced ham (delicate and salty)
  • Spicy Chorizo slices (optional, for a smoky kick)
  • Strawberries, hulled and halved (adds a juicy pop of red)
  • Blueberries (for that perfect blue contrast)
  • Green grapes or apple slices (for freshness and crunch)
  • Assorted Crackers (multigrain, water crackers, or your favorite brand)
  • Honey-Roasted Nuts (pecans or almonds add a sweet crunch)
  • Star-shaped cookie cutter (about 2-3 inches wide)
  • Honey or fig jam (optional, for drizzling or dipping)
  • Fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme (for garnish and aroma)

Instructions

  1. Slice the sharp cheddar and mild mozzarella or Monterey Jack into 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick pieces, aiming for uniform slices.
  2. Press the star-shaped cookie cutter firmly into the slices of mozzarella or Monterey Jack to create star shapes, about 8-10 stars per cheese block. Save leftover slices for snacking or melting.
  3. Arrange the star-shaped cheese prominently in clusters on the serving board, alternating with cheddar slices for visual interest.
  4. Fold or roll the salami, prosciutto, and chorizo slices into loose rosettes or simple folds and arrange around the cheeses, leaving space for crackers and fruit.
  5. Scatter halved strawberries and blueberries in small piles on the board. Use grapes or apple slices to fill gaps and add color contrast.
  6. Fan out crackers in small stacks or loose piles. Fill small bowls with honey-roasted nuts and place them strategically on the board.
  7. Add small sprigs of rosemary or thyme for garnish and aroma. Optionally drizzle honey or place a small ramekin of fig jam for spreading.
  8. Set out small tongs or forks for guests to pick up their favorites without mixing flavors.

Notes

Use cheese at room temperature for clean star cuts. Don’t cut stars too thin to avoid breaking. Fold meats loosely for better presentation. Add fruit just before serving to prevent mushiness. Wooden boards should be oiled occasionally to prevent cracking. Dairy-free and gluten-free substitutions are easy to make.
