  • 4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 2 cups shredded or sliced mozzarella cheese (about 200g)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, or blend)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine softened unsalted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, dried Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  3. Using a sharp bread knife, slice the loaf lengthwise about 3/4 through, creating a boat shape but don’t cut all the way through. Gently hollow out some of the soft bread inside to make room for the cheese filling. Save the crumbs for another use.
  4. Generously spread the garlic butter all over the inside of the hollowed bread.
  5. Pack the inside with shredded mozzarella cheese, pressing lightly so it’s evenly distributed. Add a sprinkle of Parmesan over the top if using.
  6. Brush the crust with olive oil to help it crisp up.
  7. Place the bread boat on a lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the bread edges are golden and crispy.
  8. Optional: Broil for 1-2 minutes for an extra crispy top, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  9. Let the bread boat cool for 5 minutes before slicing to allow the cheese to set slightly.
