This Chicken Alfredo Tater Tot Casserole is the ultimate easy comfort food dinner, featuring creamy Alfredo sauce, tender chicken, gooey cheese, and a crispy tater tot topping. It’s a fuss-free, crowd-pleasing casserole perfect for busy weeknights or potlucks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded or diced (about 400g)
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • 1 jar (15 oz) Alfredo sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1 cup frozen peas (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional, for topping)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)
  • Nonstick spray or butter (for greasing baking dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray or butter.
  3. In a large bowl, combine cooked chicken, frozen peas (if using), Alfredo sauce, 1 1/2 cups mozzarella, 1/4 cup parmesan, garlic powder, and salt and black pepper to taste. Stir until evenly mixed.
  4. Spread the chicken mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  5. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the chicken mixture.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup mozzarella and 1/4 cup parmesan over the tater tots. Add a pinch of Italian seasoning if desired.
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy and the filling is bubbling. If the top browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil after 30 minutes.
  8. Check for doneness: the casserole is ready when the cheese is melted, the tots are crisp, and the filling is hot throughout (internal temp should be at least 165°F).
  9. Let the casserole cool for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, ensure your Alfredo sauce and tater tots are certified gluten-free. Swap in leftover turkey or use different veggies as desired. For extra crispiness, broil the casserole for the last 2–3 minutes. Letting the casserole rest before serving helps it set and makes slicing easier. Leftovers reheat best in the oven or air fryer.
