Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups shredded cooked chicken (about 400g, rotisserie or leftover)
  • 1 1/2 cups Alfredo sauce (jarred or homemade, about 355ml)
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce (about 120ml, such as Frank’s RedHot)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened (about 115g)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (about 115g)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (about 115g)
  • 1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots (about 900g)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish, optional)
  • Ranch or blue cheese dressing (for drizzling, optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine shredded chicken, Alfredo sauce, buffalo wing sauce, and softened cream cheese. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  3. Mix in shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Season with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Taste and adjust buffalo sauce if desired.
  4. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread the chicken mixture evenly in the bottom of the dish.
  5. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single, even layer over the chicken mixture. Do not thaw the tater tots.
  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes, until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy and the casserole is bubbling.
  8. Optional: Broil for 2-3 minutes at the end for extra browning, watching closely.
  9. Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  10. Garnish with sliced green onions and drizzle with ranch or blue cheese dressing, if desired.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, ensure your Alfredo sauce and tater tots are certified gluten-free. You can swap in turkey, pork, or even chickpeas for the chicken. Add extra veggies like spinach or bell peppers for more nutrition. For less spice, use less buffalo sauce or a mild version. The casserole can be assembled ahead and refrigerated before baking. Leftovers reheat well in the oven for best crispiness.
